Don’t we just love the unique music that emanates from a cello? Apocalyptica simply remodels the same cello music by borrowing a wide variety of elements from various genres like classical, speed metal, hard rock, thrash metal, symphonic metal to produce amazing quality notes.
The band hails from Helsinki which is the capital city of Finland. The Finnish band was formed in the year 1993. Apocalyptica comprises of classically trained cellists namely Eicca Toppinen, Paava Lotjonen and Perttu Kivilaakso. All the above mentioned cellists also happen to be graduates of Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. The drummer Mikko Siren also comprises the group and helps in adding extra flavor to the music.
Earlier the band started playing as a Metallica tribute band and later in the year 1996 the band released their debut album titled ‘Plays Metallica by Four Cellos’. The band went on to release around 7 more albums which allowed them to sell more than four million albums worldwide.
Various guest vocalists have also been invited so far by the band for a combined venture. Apocalyptica is also famous for including folk melodies in their music.
