Heaven & Hell is a reincarnation of Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler along with former members Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice. The name Heaven & Hell comes from the 1980 Black Sabbath release of the same name which features all four members who recorded and toured together as Black Sabbath between 1980 and 1982 and then again from 1991-1992.
In 2006, while the foursome reunited to record three new songs for the compilation album, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, they decided to embark on a 2007 - 2008 tour. The band then confirmed they would record and release an album in 2008. Running slightly behind schedule due to touring commitments, Heaven & Hell released ‘The Devil You Know’ in April 2009 and embarked on a 2009 tour which included a number of festival appearances.
