Hailing from Texas, Pantera were first formed in 1981. They were originally known as Pantera's Metal Magic, but they shortened the name in 1982. In 1995 the lead singer, Phil Anselmo, became addicted to heroin, and tension in the band rose. They limped on for another 7 years, but only one studio album was release in that time, and in 2003 they disbanded. It has been claimed that Pantera were one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time.
